Generation was the easy half
Drafting is the most visible thing a language model does, so it is where most teams started. But volume of material was rarely the constraint. The constraint is almost always the handful of minutes between a good lead arriving and a competent human responding to it — and no amount of extra content shortens that.
Where it earns its keep
Every one of these replaces a specific piece of manual follow-through, not a job.
- Qualification at the point of enquiry — asking the questions a first call would, in the visitor's own words, instead of collecting five form fields.
- Research before the first conversation, so nobody opens a call by asking what the company does.
- Routing on intent rather than on round-robin, so the strongest enquiry reaches the right person first.
- Follow-up that actually happens on day three, day seven and day twenty-one.
- Drafting grounded in your own material, so the output sounds like the company rather than like a model.
Response time is the whole game
The advantage compounds in one place above all others: speed of first meaningful response. A qualified enquiry answered in minutes converts at a materially different rate to the same enquiry answered the next morning, and that is true across every market we operate in. Most of the value attributed to AI in B2B is really the value of closing that gap.
“Automation that requires you to change tools is automation that never ships. Build against what is already in place.”
How to start without a platform migration
Pick the one handoff that costs you the most and instrument it before you automate it. You cannot improve a step whose current duration you do not know, and the measurement usually reveals that the expensive delay is somewhere other than where everyone assumed.
- 1Time-stamp the handoff you suspect is worst, for two weeks, with no changes.
- 2Agree the decision rule a human currently applies, in writing.
- 3Automate only that rule, and log every decision it makes so it can be audited.
- 4Review the log weekly for a month before widening the scope.
This is deliberately unglamorous. It is also the only version of the project that survives contact with a real sales team, because at every point a person can see what the system decided and why.
